Re: 7afe head on a 4afe bottom

ja heads are the same! I think the 7afe has a bit more lift, but that shouldnt be a problem!

Re: 7afe head on a 4afe bottom

4A-GE head doesn't line up correctly with the 4A-FE bottom end, rather just buy a 4A-GE motor, no easy way out on this one bro.

Re: 7afe head on a 4afe bottom

the 4afe, 4age i, ii, iii and 20v blocks have the same bolt pattern and will line up correctly

The diff between the 7afe and the 4afe heads are the intake ports being at a very steep angle as opposed to the 4afe and the 7afe has 1mm more lift. The exhaust side also has a small diffrence. The 7afe head will make a diffrence at higher rpm but remember to up the compression a little. you will also require a chip or piggyback to tune for optimum performance.

Re: 7afe head on a 4afe bottom

I wouldn't call it a hectic setup, just differrent. We all human and entitled to make mistakes so you're forgiven.

Quick note: when you're decinding to swap heads and are not sure if it would fit, just get a head gasket for the sub you're going to use and another for head you want to fit. Then line the two gaskets over each other, if the bolt holes line up then yes it can fit but you need to check oil ports, water ways as well as bore size and compression ratio. This is a cheap and effective starting point.

Re: 7afe head on a 4afe bottom

i would get a complete 4age motor it would work out cheaper and simpler to do the conversion. it the small things that take time like the oil down pipe to sump and then the sump it self also the spalsh plate in the sump. distributor plug wires, the support braket for the intake manifold. these things are small items that can add up very quick. but if you buy a complete motor from on of the import places they come complete so 90% home. Just the way i look at it.

Re: 7afe head on a 4afe bottom

I second that! In your case, you just need a sub assembly and you'll be off.
