Topic: My Twincam 16v Turbo!

Good morning gents

Re: My Twincam 16v Turbo!

Good afternoon gents

I hope that everyone is well!

Yes it has been quiet, but I'm sure that this update will be worth the wait

First off I did an oil change & replaced the speedo cable that broke when I forgot to remove it when I dropped the gearbox out of the car.
http://s7.postimg.org/oao7ksh47/20151007_204319.jpg

Then the dash had to come out to fit the speedo cable...not as scary as it look, 1/2 an hour job
http://s7.postimg.org/q5122j44n/20151007_212551.jpg

After the initial tuning I kept thinking that I had a heat related issue because this is where the dash gauge would sit
http://s7.postimg.org/hixshxs4n/20151012_174220.jpg

So I bought & fitted a mechanical Equus Water temp gauge which confirmed that I did not really have a heat related issue
http://s7.postimg.org/lkevnlkfb/20151012_174227.jpg

Fortunately the temp probe fitted perfectly into the hole of the sensor that was not being used for anything

All sorted, booked time with Jody & then I had to decide what wastegate spring would be used next...
http://s4.postimg.org/p6z5yvhux/20151016_195514.jpg

I settled on the 0.6bar spring, since I would be using the ECU to control boost anything upward of the spring that was fitted

Last Friday I popped around at Jody & to my delight the Twincam was on the rollers...

Run 1, 0.6bar spring fitted, limiter set at 6000rpm:
http://s4.postimg.org/3zvfav57t/20151105_171131.jpg

Run 2, 0.6bar, limiter increased to 6500rpm, check that power jump for the extra 500rpm we revved
http://s4.postimg.org/tu580n57t/20151106_172744.jpg

After the 7000rpm run Jody called me over & asked....What are we going to rev to??? I asked, is the power dropping off yet??? Jody said nope...I said, lets rev some more!

I didn't take a pic of the 7000rpm run, but here is the 7500rpm graph @ 0.6bar boost still:

Then Monday Jody finished off the tune & used the ECU's Electronic boost control function to get the boost up to 0.8bar & here are the final figures   Evilyes

181kw & 255nm @ 0.8bar boost! JVS Tuning FTW! This is known to be a very stingy dyno, so I am really happy with the results for 95 Unleaded pump fuel with no additives!   Evilyes

Before I end this post, I just want to say thanks to everyone that played a role in the build, big or small, some people have to be mentioned like, Bioksie, Wesley, Jody, Lincoln...huge thanks to you guys!

Then before I get nailed, here is the dyno vid with the boost still at 0.6bar   Evilyes

Now to enjoy the fruits of my labour, this has been a really long time coming!

Once I am comfortable I will definitely be hitting the strip for some times!

Thanks for reading!

Please feel free to share your thoughts & comments!

Later!

I love your RunX as well  ../../extensions/custom_smilies_2/img1/devil

I'm still running baby boost, so we still have room to up the boost & then that was made with 95 unleaded as well...so we can play with some Eth too at a later stage.

I raced at the biggest event of the Killarney calendar...Street Fest Vol. 4...It was packed & I only had 5 runs on the day & bogged quite badly off the line & for the best run no time was given....fast I managed on the day was a 15.068s...not what I was hoping for, but then again it was the very first time out with the Turbo setup & I need to get more seat time to perfect the launch

Re: My Twincam 16v Turbo!

Thanks D-Mon

Well done for the first time out. It will take time and practise to get the launch perfect.
What boost you planning to run at a later stage.

I'm also using 95, but have some methanol injection at 1 Bar boost. Add a bit of Torco and run 1.3 bar boost on the 95.

Keep us updated.

I will do so...

I have a stage 1 water meth kit laying in the garage at home...never fitted it yet. Future boost...I am not sure yet...will have to see what Jody (My tuner) says.

Re: My Twincam 16v Turbo!

We had a buddies car...basically a copy & paste or my setup with just a T3/T4 turbo...on the dyno by Jody & his car made 219.8kw @ 1.2bar boost on pump fuel, but they they turned it back down to 1 bar...& then still made 206kw & 294.2nm

So I have some room to play around with still.

Fortunately the ECU (Adaptronic E420D) I am running can control the water meth activation & it makes the stage 1 water meth kit progressive...only concern by my tuner is that the water meth kit does not have a Fail Safe...should you run low & not realise & is therefore cautious about fitting it.

We will see how things go...for now I wanna get more track time & then later up the power
