Topic: Car detailing

cant really call it detailing but anyway..

What procedures do you guys use? like when cleaning the engine bay and wheels?

2 weekends ago i cleaned my engine bay, and to my surprise it is still clean  ../../extensions/custom_smilies_2/img1/smile

I hosed the motor with some water (while idling)
The i sprayed clean green all over the bay..
Used a paint brush to work it in
Then rinsed it with the hose..
and used OMO water to clean the bay again.
Then hosed it off
while abit wet i spray silicon spray on all the black bit
then used a paint brush and "painted" the silicon and water mix to all the bits..
then i removed the sump guards and used left over omo water to clean them..

Engine bay looked great..  all clean and newish

next will be the wheel wells.. will be removing the wheels and clean them..

Re: Car detailing

My favourite procedure is as follows:-
1. Apply paraffin using a paintbrush on all areas of the engine bay.
2. Wipe down with an old towel or t-shirt.
3. Spray Clean Green & let it sit for about 10 mins.
4. Rinse using a garden hose with the nozzle set on a fine mist.
5. Wipe off using an old chamois or towel.
6. Let engine idle for a few mins with A/C turned on for electric fan to work & assist drying.
7. Wipe remaining traces of water & treat all plastic & rubber bits with Vinyl & Rubber protectant.

Re: Car detailing

I use prepsol and and any spry (window lean bottle) 2 spay it over the motor. make it sit 4 a while as well and scrap the sturbon bit with  kitchen clean ing brushes! then hose it off and check 4 any more dirty spots! I like 2 spay Q20 into all the open electronic bits and but a plastic bag with a elastic over the dizzy. After wards I use my elctro lux 2 hose up all the water that stayed put, like between my tappet covers!

Dude, dont ever ever EVER use OMO on any part of your car! Dont even mention the word near your car!

Rather use Autosol or something similar to clean your engine bay ../../extensions/custom_smilies_2/img1/wink

Washing powder contains salt & will cause rust.

Washing powder contains salt & will cause rust.

That would be true. Using washing powder can even harm your engine bay.

what electronic parts would be safe to use Q20 on?
coilpacks etc?

is silicon safe on rubber hoses?
also, what can I polish aluminium with? my intake gets filthy and cant get it to shine.

Re: Car detailing

Q20 should be fine on all electric parts.

its good to spray the electric bits with Q20 before spraying the motor.

I also always keep the motor running when spraying. But dont get water on the cone filter.

also use clean green but i'm too lazy to work it in with a paint brush. i hit it with the high pressure cleaner.

I cannot stand a dirty engine bay. how can u expect your car to take care of u if u dont take care of it?
using the vacuum to get rid of the excess water is a good idea. now i must just check if mine is wet/dry

Its not your top speed that counts but how quick u get to it...

Re: Car detailing

oh and wrt the silicone spray, yes it makes the bay look really lekker, but it catches dust and ends up making it worse.

if i use the spray i leave it for a few minutes before wiping off the excess (buffing)

Re: Car detailing

any1 tried that Glassylight thing?

i used it on the MR coz the headlights ever getting ever so slightly yellowish

makes a Big difference! Also managed to get rid of all those tiny scratches/stone chips on the lights.
i'd suggest this to anyone!

Wish i could use it on the runx fogs but those are glass. it can only be used on plastic lights.

Re: Car detailing

where you get that from? need get the scracthes off my lights

also ... what to use you to clean the inside of the windscreen??
apparently things like Windowlene and Sunlight cause glare in certain light conditions ...

so im just using water and it obviously isnt good enough after a while

Re: Car detailing

if anyones in durbs, did my lights at D'Rock Auto, Rockdale Road, Springfield Park (off Peter Road). Cost  R350, removes scratches and fading/yellowness etc etc, works on both plastic and glass, comes with a 3year warrenty never to fade/yellow etc etc

Re: Car detailing

For wheels nothing comes close to Sonax extreme wheel cleaner, it is PH neutral so no harm to anything.
