Topic: Upgrade to my 7age 16v

I'm upgrading my 7age bigport to a smallport with wild cams and gasflow.
The cams are 2x20v exhaust cams reprofiled by Dave Repsold to a Yoshi spec 292 deg with 9mm lift.hes also put a gear onto the now 16v exhaust cam (88RSI Thanks for your help in the logistics department  ).
The head I got gasflowed and polished by maistro Mike Dixon from Milnerton.
I made my own magafter for the external oil drain.
All pics to follow soon....

Re: Upgrade to my 7age 16v

Can't wait for the pics Ewie, if you dont mind me asking, what did the reprofiling of the cams set you back?

Once everything has been setup & tuned I'd like to know what the final figures are!

Please keep us posted!

Re: Upgrade to my 7age 16v

Heyta Ewie, you running full management with this setup right??? coz the std ECU even with a piggy back won't get the optimum results out of this setup ... the 20v cams reprifiled is defeinitely better than stock 16v cams reprofiled ... you will have a non noisey head after shiming is done  ../../extensions/custom_smilies_2/img1/wink  ../../extensions/custom_smilies_2/img1/wink

Re: Upgrade to my 7age 16v

Awesome! Finally the 7AG gets the head it deserves.

@ Ewie dont u need to lengthen the valves for the reprofiled cut cams? If these 20v cams work as "billets" on the 16v head that would be just brilliant! Did you already shim the head for the cams....std shims?

Re: Upgrade to my 7age 16v

U right Sam the 20v cams work like billets, only drawback is the exhaust cam which has 2 have the gear refitted, but its not such a big mission! peerfect way would be 2 run 60-2 then that will be ellimanated!

the head was fitted the past wkend by Ewie and me and he is just ironing out a few kinks! Should be running soon!  ../../extensions/custom_smilies_2/img1/biggrin2

Re: Upgrade to my 7age 16v

Here's the dynograph.
Car start to make power VERY late in the rev range.Suspecting the Comp ratio to be too low.Can be allot of things but I'll try and get it sorted in the next two weeks. The car will go back to the dyno first thing next year.
Here's the current setup tho:
Std balanced 7A bottom with series 3 pistons
Ser 3 16v flowed head with 292deg cams (9mm lift)
1.2mm 4A headgasket
Std exhaust

Re: Upgrade to my 7age 16v

Very nice build Ewie & SuperCboy.

Don't you think that the std exhaust is holding you back & maybe the cause of the car making power later in the rev range, but then again,292 spec cams are only start to make power from 6000-6500RPM to about 8500RPM.

Re: Upgrade to my 7age 16v

I used a syringe yesterday and measured/worked the CR out.Its 10.3:1 at the moment and another thing is they where out by about 10deg on Crank TDC.
Will put he thinner headgasket on next week and reconsider who I'll take the car to for redail and remap.
To my opinion the kak exhaust sould have a neg affect on high revs not low revs...

Re: Upgrade to my 7age 16v

Do you think puting 1 or 2 7afe gaskets on is gonna be enough to up your compression with those cams?

With those cams i would say you should have a compression of 11.5:1

Re: Upgrade to my 7age 16v

Im putting a 0.44mm Elring gasket in.Should bring the CR up to 11:1 If I want it higher I would have to deck the block by about 0.6mm, as per Dave Repsold's recommendation.
That'll leave me at around 11.5
