Re: Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator-*Updated with Results*

Thanks for the reply guys.
About the engine. . . . . it's a bit of a story. The engine was stock standard but the head was replaced after the vvt pulley broke and the belt snapped. It bend 10 valves and the guys who re-did the head completely distoyed it. I the bought a stock standard head from "Headsone" and fitted that with all standard gaskets and goodies. No modifications. After fitting the new head ping was a lot less but still there. The new head also have a deeper growl when you pull away then the old one -not that it bothers me at all. To get back to compression: The last time I did a compression test (after the new head was fitted) it showed about 12 bar on all pistons. It was a dry test. I will however test it again and post my findings.

How do I go about cleaning the injectors? Just running it with injector cleaner in the fuel or should the injectors be removed and cleaned somehow?

Thanx

Hey man, met you at Killarney a while ago. I recently got a guy at a place by the name of Rowland something to make up and adjustbale cam gear for my 20v silvertop. just got one for the exhaust and fitted it myself. Took it to Mace in tokai and got them to fine tune it and remap the motor and I got an extra 5kw and 9nm out of it. Definitely well worth it for the price. Costed R500

Re: Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator-*Updated with Results*

hey guys i did this mod this weekend.

put the reg in set it at 3bars, car was going nice

drove around for about 2 hours, then she went dead n overfuelld, checked the reg and it shot up to 6 bars and fuel was spraying out the regulator vacuum pipe into my throttles.

so i assume the regulator gave up.

can theese adjustable regulators be repaired ??

this thread inspired me to install one on my 7ag...shortly after though it started leaking through the vacuum and around the outside so the car runs rich 100% of the time...BUT before the leak started, the down low pull could make you choke on the air in your throat...amazing diff afpr's make

Correct me where I may go wrong but the steps to follow are
1) install a not-so-cheap fpr
2) disconnect the vacuum hose and set the pressure to 3 bars or 44psi
3) reconnect the vacuum hose
4) enjoy the results

Re: Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator-*Updated with Results*

what pressure are people with 7ag 20v normally running with stock injectors and ecu? 3 bar is supposed great for the 1.6 but mine is now a 1.8 or 1.9 because of the 7a bottom and .20 over pistons. if feels good at 3 bar but is anybody pushing more??

before regualator and walbro it ran extremely lean at wot all the way up to 65k and made 129hp atw.

Ok here goes.

Std pressure is about 2.7 bar or almost 40PSi. Here are the results :

48 PSI (3.3 bar) - There is a def increase in bottom-mid range torque but acceleration high up is slightly slower.

50 PSi (3.44 Bar) - Greater power increase in the bottom-mid

52 PSi (3.6 bar)  - Huge increase low down but the car almost hits a brick wall at about 180kph

42 PSi (2.89 bar)- Slightly higher than stock and small diff in the mid range.

44 PSi (3 bar)- This seemed to be the sweet spot with the stock ecu where the bottom?mid range power increased without sacrificing the acceleration or top speed.
I love this setting and there is a def increase in torque in the low/mid range.

It must be noted as well that when the pressure is turned up the throttle response increases greatly as well. This was an added benefit.

With regards to fuel consumption....i have not noticed any difference! ../../extensions/custom_smilies_2/img1/biggrin2

Another good bonus is that the higher pressure removes pinging on the engine. My car used to pig slightly under load below 2k rpm.....now it doesnt at all!

The next update will be with dyno graphs and power readings....BUt for now i recommend this to any 20v owner with the stock ecu. ../../extensions/custom_smilies_2/img1/cool

so i'm planning on adding an afpr with my o/haul, but m completely clueless on what goes where. The afpr has 3 ports, was told that its the inlet, outlet n vacuum. Can anyone advise ön wer 2 get the pipes 4 above mentioned ports.
All help will be highly appreciated

Re: Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator-*Updated with Results*

Can you explain why higher fuel pressure can change the performance of a engine?.And then the low/mid range increase and loss on top?.So you are saying with the same injectors you can get more fuel into the cylinder with higher pressure?.There must be a big loss on fuel consumption?.

Re: Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator-*Updated with Results*

The previous owner installed a 2.7 external fuel pump(not sure 2.??) on my silvertop. The pump screams as soon as you turn on the ignition so loud it annoys everyone within a two block radius.

I assume its because the pump is to strong for the setup. The new Bosch pump costs 1.2k.Do i get  a afpr,or just change the pump?.Do i need to dyno again?.
