Re: Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator-*Updated with Results*

Howzit Herschel.

Im just around the corner from you. Wont mind assisting you in any way that i can.

Just sms me and we can hookup.

Im not sure of the regulator with the CAI setup since by default the 20v ECU will now overfuel to compensate for the extra air that is coming in.

Maybe play around with the pressure reading and see what works best for you. Just remember the more pressure...the more you lose top end due to over fueling.

And always set the regulator with the vacuum hose disconnected......thats the only way to determine the correct pressure under full throttle.

Maybe i'll just keep the AFPR for when i do cams later this year & just use my std FPR now, cause i'm happy with the way the car is running as it is.

Howzit Craig

U dont need to physically remove the old regulator. Just connect the new one by bypassing the old 1 completely and using the leads from there.

I must mention that you guys should please buy a good regulator. The regulator that i was testing with broke about 2 months after the install.

I have been running without 1 since then but plan on getting a very good aftermarket brand name unit. The ching chong ones dont last.

Think this pic is a better angle where you can the see the std regulators vacuum pipe isn't connected.

On the 1st cylinders throttle body there's a vacuum nipple where the pipe goes onto.

Ok.The line @ the bottom of the FPR is ur return line & the one on the side is the one that come from your fuel rail. The vacuum pipe goes on by the small fitting.

Re: Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator-*Updated with Results*

Twincamsam
The study you did certainly got my attension, I just need to ask a few questions which I am sure you will find very funny. If my understanding of you post is correct all that needs to happen is that I would need a feul regulater that allows me to contol the feul preasure right? Then bypass the existing regulator and set presure to about 3 bar when the car is idling?
Is there any electronic adjustment or tweaking that needs to happen? My 20v BT pings between 3000 and 4000 rpm to such a degree that I have to use octane boosters to try and minimize this. With the pinging comes lots of black smoke which I would think is feuling that you refer  to. Would playing around with feul presure solve this problem?

Re: Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator-*Updated with Results*

Thanks for the tip. I tried it before but then I end up with no power until the engine has reached normal temp. It just refuses to pull. This really makes the car very difficult to drive as it constantly just dies under your feet especially in the winter.

Advancing the timing makes the car very nippy and nice to drive (without the winter problem) but the ping just gets worse. On a warm summers day with the aircon on the engine pings non stop. It is currently set to 12 deg which is sort of a midway between winter and summer and with the octane boosters it is deffinitely a lot better, but it would be nice if I could sort this problem. On the other hand I must say that as a enthutiastic twincam driver I am always looking out for other 20v's and have never come accross one that doesn't smoke! Thus my question: Does the fuel pressure have anything to do with the smoking and the pinging?

Re: Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator-*Updated with Results*

Yes you can remove some ping by upping the pressure. It completely eliminated by ping on start.

Your car should not ping at all on 12 deg advance ? Has your engine ever been opened and the compression changed?

If not then you may have some carbon build up on the pistons OR your injectors are not 100%
