Topic: Attempting the 9AGE Blacktop 20v Conversion

Ive recently read an article on the new 9AGE conversion.

It is done with a 7AFE block, 1ZZGE crank, and 2ZZ conrods.

We currently have these parts scattered between a few of us....

There is a little machining to be done but i think this would be great for R&D @ 9000RPM.

Here is some pics courtesy of "Turbo4AGTE" from Toymods :

Modifications needed include have to shave the sides of the block walls, as it seems the counterweights are slightly thicker and wont allow it to seat into the main bore. Thats the only "machining". But we will have to see as i think matching a piston may be a problem.

Incidentally using an 83mm 7afe bore will give a cubic capacity that converts to 1990cc.

So now...take a nicely done 4AGE 20v Blacktop head with with 45mm throttles, cams etc and slap it straight on and you will have a...wait for it....

Re: Attempting the 9AGE Blacktop 20v Conversion

I've looked into this as well, it seems like a huge possibility and could potentially work, but it could also NOT work.

I can see that the ZZ crank fits in the 7A block, but I think it sill needs some machining in order for it to work, but that might hamper durability.

A rod and piston colab will probably be the hardest thing to get hold of.

Theoretically, it could work, but for how long.

The 3zzge build thats mounted to the Trial Celica is a true gem in R & D and trial (excuse the pun) and error, was also shunned when put on paper, but praised when conceived.

So, when are we starting?

Pistons you use the sentra 1.6 16v its 82mm. Myself and 88RSI was talking about it.

I know those fit nicely into the bore, but what about the length of the rod?

Surely the rod will have to be short enough to prohibit the piston head hitting the valves....?

88rsi has allready received the ca18 nissan pistons according  2 my knowledge! Its just not clarified that the the bore spacing is gonna work and if the small end sizes are similar?

Re: Attempting the 9AGE Blacktop 20v Conversion

Thats my point...using 2ZZGE rods means that we gonna need a really short piston....?

You guys have CR calculations? Considering the setup, it's gotta be +12 no?

Re: Attempting the 9AGE Blacktop 20v Conversion

Those pistons got lot meat on the top can make it clear the valves. As for the size it will fit the bore. Guys are using the vw pistons, 2.5 pistons in their turbo 4age motors.

Re: Attempting the 9AGE Blacktop 20v Conversion

Would that work on a 4age instead?  because the 7afe block is aluminum..  And you could just bore the 4age .020 over and it would be basically the same thing it would just be around the 1950cc mark instead.  But with way more power handling capabilities.

How much would that crank be?

Re: Attempting the 9AGE Blacktop 20v Conversion

7AFE has a longer stroke (85 mm IIRC). How can reboring 4AG add up to 1950cc?

Don't know where you cet your info from but firstly the 7AFE block is not Aluminium but cast iron like all Toyota blocks. Its impossible to get 1950cc out of a 4age block. If you over bore it from the std 81mm to 83 (which is max recomended) you'll end up with about 1667cc.Thats still a far cry from a 1900:rolleyes:
