Hey man Im actually going for a pavement pounder effect, even thou the car is not built for it, that would be the only kind of way to describe it. Im just building an ALL-Round car with a bit of everything...

Ok guys so after all the putty was dried it was time for some more elbow grease and sand paper...
End result was then layered up with another coat of primer and smoothed out with 220grit sand paper again...

Basically looking like this...

http://imageshack.us/scaled/medium/69/projectplaytoytoyotataz.jpg

So once that was all done and so to say ready for the final stages, something didnt look all that good to me...
So I kinda decided that the tail lights didnt look all that good as they were...

Re: *** Project PLAYTOY...

Hey guys so here is another update of pics...

Got around to cutting the rings for the subs and mounting all 6 of them...

Made sure the subs would fit. (Wont be using these anymore, but you get
the idea...) Then covered it in carpeting, lay some resin over it to get
it hard so that it would keep the shape and Fibreglass over that once
it was dried...

http://imageshack.us/scaled/medium/9/projectplaytoytoyotataz.jpg

Took them out and cut the rest of the acoustic carpet away that I did not need... (Once the resin was dry of course...)
Now it this pic you will see two "cones" that I built that was gonna be used for rear speakers but once it was placed into position it just didnt look right so I scrapped that idea and just closed it all up...
http://imageshack.us/scaled/medium/14/projectplaytoytoyotataz.jpg

Then I started cutting my fiberglass into big blocks (easier to work with) and then did the first layer of fiberglass on the outside to make sure that it was gonna keep the shape and that I was happy with it...

I voted not my taste but interesting...
I am wondering why you opted for the V8 instead of a 2JZ? Is the 2JZ bigger then the V8 in size to fit?
Will keep checking back, wish I could assist with this, really beeeg into the music part!!!

Well for a few reasons, I wanted to keep it Auto due to the steering in the middle of the car and got the V8 at a very good price... Also I wanted to stick to NA as Im not planning of doing ANY form of racing with it... Its just for show and FUN...

Still LOTS of work to be done and chatting to a few sound dealers to see what I want to go with for the equipment...

Well another weekend gone and time for some updates...
(Pic 1) After the basic shape was fibreglassed I added 2 layers on the inside of the box, then I started sanding it down a bit to make it smoother and easier to work with.
(Pic 2) I then cut and placed the front bottom boards in place for extra support and possible amp mounts,
(Pic 3) Then I secured them in place and fibreglassed them too...

So basically no real big news or updates...
(pic 1) just did the body putty , sanded it down,
(pic 2) gave it a layer of MS Primer and flat sanded to see where I needed more putty,
(pic 3) and then added it on... you will also notice that I started with the side rear vents... (Welded them closed and putty over them...)

Ok guys so after having sanded do much I decided to take a bit of a break and then finish the rear vents, closed and flush them too...

So here you can see the majority of the box that has been sanded and just given another quick layer of primer to see what still needs to be sorted out...
Then it was time to cut the base of the NOS bottle mounting and position it...
Making sure there is enough space so that the ports can still be removed if needed.

Re: *** Project PLAYTOY...

Ok guys so once that was all done it was time to build a Jig (frame) so that I could move the car around as well as Rotate it 360 degrees, for when I need to do work on the roof or chassis...

http://imageshack.us/scaled/medium/94/ta6e.jpg

Here you can see it without the wheels on the frame, as we were just testing it...
Car can rotate 360 degrees but needs 2 or 3 people to swing it around thou...

Re: *** Project PLAYTOY...

Ok guys, so time to start getting the shape of the new 2-Door conversion that I want to do. But in order to do that I need to cut the B-Pillars out. Remembering that the roof will be reinforced, it was time to start cutting...
And then as you can see in the last pic, a new plate was cut and welded into place on either side...

http://imageshack.us/scaled/medium/689/r5rj.jpg

http://imageshack.us/scaled/medium/21/sbg6.jpg

Kinda the new 'open' view that will be re-constructed a bit still...

Re: *** Project PLAYTOY...

Ok so now that I have the Jig built that enables me to rotate the car around, it was a good time to flip it upside down and start to reinforce the roof lining...
I did a total of 10 layers Fiberglass...
Did the first 5 layers then to gain a bit of 'thickness' I cut and added a piece of 6mm MDF wood, then the last 5 layers...

Did 3 layers and let it dry, then 2 layers and wood (With lots of weights to make sure their are no gaps) Then did 3 layers again till dry, then final 2 layers...

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800x600q90/62/projectplaytoytoyotataz.jpg

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800x600q90/29/projectplaytoytoyotataz.jpg

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800x600q90/94/projectplaytoytoyotataz.jpg

And I can say that the roof is really solid and very hard...
Hit it a few times with a 4 pound hammer to test it...

Thanks Carl...

Yes indeed and still not in the full swing of things but will get there...
Have a few things on the house to sort out and get done...
Well I would love for the car to set a few standards but each to their own as I know a few dont like it OTT, but I do, so Im building it... LOL...

Well this year I really want to see how far I can get the car, if not close to finished...

Continue... Ok guys so before the roof had all its Fiber Layers done (took long enough) I let it cure and dry for 2 days... Wanted to make sure it was properly done and no rush jobs as the Subs are facing upwards to the roof so had to be solid...

We first turned the Car at an angle on the Jig so that I could cut out the spare wheel well. Reason for this is to make space for the rear Diff as well as a battery cage that will be mounted behind the diff... (Need plenty of power for this puppy...)

Re: *** Project PLAYTOY...

Well guys as promised...

VERY basic concept layout idea for my steering...
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/640x480q90/13/fjlo.jpg

This was just a quick cut out piece while I was waiting for some fiberglass to dry...
So basically I will add another 2 pieces of wood on the edges (front and back) to "build" up the thickness of the steering and then I will sand it down to size and smooth it off nicely so that my hands will be able to sit nice and snug...

Then if that works or looks like it could work then I was thinking of adding switch buttons on top of each side for my indicators and add a few more at the back for the rest of my required units (Lights, Hooter, and so forth...) And remember this will be a show car so I want to make it as different as possible and not have any of the usual "storks" around the steering...
