Topic: *** Project PLAYTOY...

Ok Guys so its that TIME...

PROJECT PLAYTOY thread started...

Ive added in a POLL option, so as soon as I get to the Interesting suff please lay out your votes... And maybe get some credit for SERIOUS work... LOL...
Now just to give you a little background (cutting the story a little short here and there) as to the car and how it started:
I bought the car about 12 years back and it was a bottom of the line 1.3L with NO extras... Basic as they come...
I then bought some sound as time went on and started doing some of my first installs in my own car, and thats how I learned what is what...
After about owning the car for 2 years or so I bought a set of 13" rims and a boot spolier, thats as far as I was aloud to go (back then I was still in school and my parents had the last say... ) I started attending some car shows and sound comps and was hooked as you could imaging...
So I then started rebuilding and upgrading my sound system and slowley started competing, I still remember my very first comp was with 2x 2" SVC Pioneer VCCS subs and I managed a 140.2 dB's. I unfortunatly didnt place anywhere but came 5th in my class. I then attended and competed over the next few years in various comps but could never compete in the Finals as I wasnt able to run down to certain provinces for comps as I had to work and could never get time off...

So then I decided it was time to make a drastic change to the car and I wanted to build a show car that I could show off some skill and looks as they say... And thats when I started building installs with Fibreglass...
But even thou I my car was a show pleaser and crowd pleaser, I still wasnt happy with it... So again I decided to strip it all down and start a MEGA Build that would really take me some time to finish and something that you dont see everyday (you know those special show cars that only come out to play on certain occasions... )

The Basic Idea behind the build is to contain:
6x 15" Subs
8x Sets of Speakers
1x Single seat (In the centre of the car)
V8 Motor with Rear Wheel Drive Conversion
20" Rims
2 Door Conversion
Lots of Chassis Mods to support and change the look of the car
Complete Custom Bodykit (molded to the car)
Own Design Steering wheel with no Stalks.
* And a few small others as the build goes on...

So after long sleepless nights (Researching and google images) I decided what I wanted to do and how I wanted it to look
Ok so as you know it was time to get this project started and how better than to get rid of everything that you not gonna need...
Yeah thats right, time to strip her down and see what is what under all those covers...

So after I had the car stripped down I removed the motor (was starting to fade anyway)...
Long story short I sent the car in for Rubberizing in stead of using Dynamat or a sound deadning material... (This was about 2 years before I started with the current PROJECT BUILD...) But was Fine, could work around it so didnt need to remove it...

Re: *** Project PLAYTOY...

Wow that's some big mods you planning there!
What V8 you want to use? and how do you plan on fitting it into a Quest engine bay?
Is there going to be space to fit a propshaft and diff as well?

YES that is correct...
Well firstly im lookig at the Lexus 1UZFE V8 (My uncle bought one and so did a quick 'test' fit to see if it would work...) And alas it does fit with a few millimeters, but there is enough room for it.
And as for the RWD conversion, Yes I already have the rear diff whitch is from a Toyota Supra. It has had a test fit in the rear and will get to all that later in the build. But yes there is enough room with some chassis mods...

As for the seating, Im gonna keep it on the Auto trans and have the right foot as my Accelerator and my Left foot as my brake. So basically speaking one foot on either side of the tunnel and the shifter between my legs...
I know so people say that this wont work and that it wont be practicle, BUT IM BUILDING A SHOW CAR, not a daily drive...

What I will do is get my old sketches and layout diagrams of before I started to give everybody an idea as to the layout that Ive got planned, then it should be easier to understand...

Well I could have but due to the fact that I have my Honda as a Daily Drive and this car was paid off, I thought it would just be easier... And the shape had a factor in the result that im aiming for at the end... So was a win win...

Thanks and will do... Still have tons of work to do, but I got nothing but time... hehe

Re: *** Project PLAYTOY...

Ok Guys so here is a quick layout of what Im planning...

http://imageshack.us/scaled/medium/502/toyotajpegsoundlayout.jpg

Under Boot Section:
Section under the Boot and behind the diff... (Cutting away the spare wheel well for the space...

Boot Section:
Welding the hatch shut onto the car but dividing it from the car.
Will house a 19" screen in the middle , 2x 6" Speakers on the side of the screen and 2x Amps for the subs... (Otherwisw one big monoblock)

Rear Cabin Section of the car / Back seats and boot area:
This section will be housing the 6x 15" Subs (3 on either side of the car), Ports in the centre of the subs (6x 6" Ports), and the Nitrous Bottle in front of the ports...

Front Cabin Section of the Car / Front Seats and Dash Area:
4x 6" Speakers on the dash with 2x 5.5" screens on either end...

Custom made Seat in the centre with a screen in the 'headrest' section facing forward...
3x smaller Amps to power up the speakers
Radio and Processer on the Left side of the Dash
Ignition and switch panel on the Right side of the dash

Engine Compartment:
Well obviously the Engine... (V8 Lexus 1uzfe)
2x 6" Speakers (One either side of the motor
2x 7" Screens (One either side of the motor)

Ok so their you have a basic Idea of what im planning on doing...

Re: *** Project PLAYTOY...

Ok so now that I had the car stripped out completely, I could get a good layout of the car and how much space I have for the setup...

So basically I got started with the front steering column...
Took a fet measurements to get it centre mounted and then started cutting... As you can see the Left side was easy to do, but the right side needed to be 'filled' with a bit more as there was more 'frame' work around the column

Here you can see it all removed...

Re: *** Project PLAYTOY...

Ok so now that we had the Steering Column basically complete it was time to start getting the centre tunnel cut out...

http://imageshack.us/scaled/medium/202/projectplaytoytoyota21.jpg

http://imageshack.us/scaled/medium/202/projectplaytoytoyota22.jpg

So basically just cut this small section out and waiting for the Motor and box before cutting the rest according to the shape required...

Re: *** Project PLAYTOY...

Ok so now it was time to start shaping the dash...
Started with a basic level platform and then started placing everything and angling them... Then covered it in acoustic carpet to round the shape off...
(in the pics you will see that its was still based on the 2 seater design that was originally planned...)
But basically once I decided to change it to a single seater, I kept the top half of the dash and just cut iff the bottom half...

Re: *** Project PLAYTOY...

Ok so after the basic shape of the top section was ready it was time to shape the bottom half and fiberglass it...
This was the shape before the Center Steering was decided upon, so basically just the same mountings and basic layout...

Ok guys, so after I went thru all the effort of Shaping, Fibreglassing, sanded, smoothed and primered the dash, I changed my mind to do the Centre Seat Location and needed to change the dash. Well the top half was perfect but the bottom half had to be changed... So I cut it all off...

So here you can see the top section that is preped and primered with the centre steering column in place... (Dont have any other pics at the moment from the front view...)

Ok so seeing as I was busy removing things and parts off the car, I was looking at my rear lights and then remembered I had a set of Led round lights that I got from my mate when he wrote off his car, So perfect opportunity to make them fit...

Re: *** Project PLAYTOY...

So now it was time for the boot so take shape...
Started with cutting 2 pieces of 16mm MDF wood (top and bottom half)
Mounted pieces on the side to secure the back section onto, then cut the framework for the 19" Screen in the middle and mounted it.
But the boot was still very 'empty' so I cut speaker rings and mounted them next to the screen and then wrapped the whole section in acoustic carpet to take shape...
Did one thin layer of fiberglass resin just to harden the carpet and get the shape to 'hold'... so before I started building the amp surrounds I started doing a thin layer of bondo and putty, then sand and smooth...

http://imageshack.us/scaled/medium/707/projectplaytoytoyotataz.jpg

http://s7.postimage.org/adzv37pxj/war_pink.jpghttp://s7.postimage.org/m9chx5jpj/WAR_copy.jpghttp://s7.postimage.org/fk5yh4ydj/war_red.jpghttp://s7.postimage.org/fyccduosn/war_blue.jpg

Re: *** Project PLAYTOY...

Ok so another weekend gone and so more updates: basically after the first layer of Fibre, I started with some putty and sanding, then it was getting a pit difficult to see what has been smoothed right and shaped, so I ran over it with some 220 grit sand paper and then ran over it with some Primer so that I had a new starting point to see what needed more sanding and shaping...
Here you can also see the finished shape of the tail lights after they were primed too... As well as the bumper that I started working on, but not finished the shape so more on that later.

http://imageshack.us/scaled/medium/833/projectplaytoytoyotataz.jpg

Then I started placing in the Amp mounts and fibreglassing it into place and then putty it too... And then started all over again...
Shaping
Fibreglassing
Putty
Sand
Primer...

http://imageshack.us/scaled/medium/837/projectplaytoytoyotataz.jpg

Now I know some of you might be thinking it would be easier to do it all in one go, placing, shaping, covering and so forth... And you would be right... Except that when I was doing the boot I never had the amp mount sizes and so instead of doing nothing I wanted to start doing what I could...
