Topic: Corolla RXi/RSi Suspension /Springs /Shocks

Hi Guys

I need to redo my suspension again and thought that it would be nice to have a thread with feedback from guys.

So far this is what i have tried :

- Compressed springs with std shocks

   Great ride, great look, only downside is that you shorten the life of your shocks

-Eibach Pro kit with KYB and Armstrong shocks

   The Eibach bottomed out the KYB's and Armstrong.....not suitable for std shocks.

-Cheap 40mm springs (Koenig / Razor) with shortened shocks (Ian Glass)

   Good ride, minimal rebound, car hugs the tarmac. Life on shocks has only been around 2 years.

Anyway so now my shortened shocks are collapsed and I am investigating other options like KONI. I just got a price from Steves Auto Clinic for R6500 for all 4 KONI shortened shocks. They also want R2600 for KONI 30mm springs.

I'm contemplating just going back to standard springs compressed with new KYB shocks......so far the compressed springs was the best of all worlds....although the back was slightly twitchy on hard bends

Looking for feedback from guys with  other suspension setups on a 20v and details on where to obtain the parts.

Sam I still have the KYB Shocks on my compressed springs that I bought form you...

I don't really like that 'twitchy' part as I love to push into the bends. Personally I'd rather spend the bucks & get the decent stuff that'll give you the drop, handling AND reliability. But that's just me...

Sam you must be the only person that i have heard of that says that

I have went in plenty cars that got compressed springs and the ride is absolutely terrible...

Get the TEIN S Tech its 45mm 40mm or KONI 40mm  ../../extensions/custom_smilies_2/img1/cool

I beg to differ the KYB Shock with the original compressed spring gives a combo of an ok ride and great handling on my 20v. Compared to the Koni Eibach combo that my bra toyofreak has its not very far off...although my springs sit lower than his and we both have 15" 20v rims...

@Kamz last time i checked JDM Tuner had them for R2800 but they didnt have stock and i couldnt wait so i got Koni's

Is KYB the same as the Toyota shock?

@ TRIXSTA - bru i got the shocks at a good price from a bra  ../../extensions/custom_smilies_2/img1/wink  I know Stable Ride does here in Jozy at R100 a spring if I remember correctly  ../../extensions/custom_smilies_2/img1/unsure

So much better to go with setups these days
I understand my one bud wanted to get replacement std shocks and the priced him R1000 a shock
That is MAD
So for the Toy's KONI is best?

i have eibach on kyb shocks .. the back after a while bottomed out.. using spaces in the back eibach waste of money!! tho ride and handling is tops still is tops with the spaces in the back even ... 6500 for shortend shocks only plus still buy springs.. id say look for a coilover set up rather thats serviceable life long investment :-?

perhaps eibach would work better on a shortened shock. i am yet to find shortend shocks for a decent price...

Another guy told me on the gabriel site they do shortend shocks @ R1500 a pair ../../extensions/custom_smilies_2/img1/unsure
Havent checked it out or know of anyone using them or any issues with them

For Corolla RSI RXI  @ Autozone Shocks = Gabriel R1800, Monroe = R1600

@ Toyota

This is not a bad price at all...when i found out from Koni about coilovers i was told that they dont have for the 20v but they can "make it" with H&R Springs at a total of 18K yes thats right 18k  ../../extensions/custom_smilies_2/img1/blink
